These tiny birds live up to their name - with a fabulous long-tail being their key identifying feature. In the spring, they build a domed nest out of moss, lichen and cobwebs in a bush or the fork of a tree. The cobwebs give the nest elastic-like properties and allow it to expand as the chicks grow.
 
In the winter, Long-Tails gather in flocks that aren't uncommon in urban parks and gardens. You'll normally hear them first - a characteristic prrrr-prrrr-ping gives away their presence.
