Pied Flycatchers are members of the Old World Flycatcher Family. As their name suggests, they are aerial and acrobatic, using perches to catch their flying insect prey.
 
These striking summer visitors thrive in the mild, wet conditions of the UK's temperate rainforests - the coastal woodlands of Wales, Scotland and South West England. They spend their winters in tropical Africa.
 
Unfortunately, Pied Flycatcher numbers are in decline in the UK. The species' conservation status is Red Listed by the BTO due to recent declines in both breeding populations and range.
